Our Curriculum

Our curriculum and environment encompasses all areas of development including social, emotional, cognitive and physical.  We recognize that each child learns at a different level and pace and take pride in our ability to individualize our program to meet your child's needs. We have especially focused on the incoming requirements for the Peninsula School District kindergarten program.  We understand the need for children to be ready academically as well as respect and prepare your child for the emotional and social expectations of the elementary school environment.

Please note that we follow the Peninsula School District's holiday schedule for all major holidays and breaks.  Please click HERE for a copy of our 2009-2010 school calendar.

Our curriculum is structured around 7 areas of learning development:

Area Development
Classroom Math and Language
Imagination Center Pretend Play & ADL's
Sensory Center Fine Motor & Exploration
Science Center Explore 5-Senses
Literacy Center Books on CD, Library, Tech
Art Room Explore Various Mediums
Gross Motor Floor Physical Development

Here is an outline of our basic routine.  These transitions are in place to expose your child to all the areas of the school.  No child will be forced to participate in any activity they do not want to do.  They are free to choose within the limits of safety and supervision.

15 - 20 Minutes on each of following:

Arrival (main play floor-gross motor)
Circle Time (class room-calendar, ABC’s, weather, music, stories, etc)
Work Time (class room-math, language)  *longer for Pre-K students*
Snack Time (class room-work on "restaurant manners")
Bubble Time, Good-bye Song & Stamp (main play floor- 5 minutes only)
Coats/Shoes/Backpacks/Line up for pickup (learn to put on shoes/coats)

These areas are open for the children to choose on their own.  They are not required to spend time in each of the centers listed below every day.  Their own personal “sensitive periods” will dictate to them which area they are interested in at any given time.

Socio-Dramatic Play (Imagination center)
Sensory (sensory play area-fine motor development)
Science center (located in sensory...explore the 5 senses)
Art center (located next to the classroom...explore various mediums)
Literacy center (books on cd, library, computer, writing practice)

Rainy Dayz believes that potty training should not be required for a child to attend school at the chance of missing that social, emotional and cognitive development.  No child will be denied enrollment because they are not potty trained.

Welcome to Rainy Dayz!  We look forward to having your child in school!
