Two's Curriculum Focus 24-36 months sees a lot of developmental milestones being achieved in a child. We feel in order to ensure success in all areas; your child’s curriculum should be designed to meet their needs month by month during this year. A lot happens during a child’s second year. A new 2 is in a very different developmental stage than a 2 ½ year old. We feel that putting children together that are close in age will allow them to work on their emerging skills in an age appropriate environment. Wednesdays and Fridays 1st Day of School: September 7th, 2011 A new 2 year old child is working very diligently on their own autonomy. They enjoy doing everything by themselves and their favorite word is “no”. They are interested in being in an environment with other children but not yet ready to engage with them face to face. Hopefully, they are feeling more confident when being left by a parent and are beginning to trust the people that are now caring for them. Tuesdays and Thursdays 1st Day of School: September 6th, 2011 By 2 ½, many children are transitioning into interactive play. They now enjoy playing with another child as oppose to along side them. They are more interested in their surroundings and begin to understand that their actions have direct consequences, both positive and negative. Their vocabulary will increase greatly and they have better self control. It can be frustrating for a 2 ½ year old to spend time with a child who will not engage in an activity or conversation with them. Both classes will emphasize helping your child develop and maintain relationships, manage their new emerging social skills and emotionally prepare them to be away from you on a regular basis. An introduction to basic academics will also be included but not be the primary focus. Most children at this age are incapable of understanding the concepts behind numbers, letters, shapes and colors. However, it is important to introduce these to them so that when they reach the age that they can use this information (around 3); they will have been exposed to it and will be confident in learning new concepts.
